Prepare the Destination Computer for Exchange
Before installing Exchange you must first prepare the destination computer by installing the following Windows components:
Exchange 2013 and Exchange 2016
Allocate at least 8GB of memory and at least 40GB of free disk space. See the detailed Exchange requirements at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/Exchange/plan-and-deploy/system-requirements.
Download and install .NET 4.5.2 or later.
Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010
For VM testing allocate at least 6GB of memory and at least 16GB of free disk space. For a production server allocate at least 8GB of memory. See the detailed Exchange requirements at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/Exchange/plan-and-deploy/system-requirements.
Install IIS as part of the preparation step.
Exchange 2010 on Windows Server 2008 (R2)
You will need to download and install .NET updates and run commands in Windows PowerShell to add the required features (Add-WindowsFeature). For details see https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/Exchange/plan-and-deploy/prerequisites.
