Prepare the Destination Computer for SharePoint

Before installing SharePoint you must first prepare the destination computer by installing the necessary prerequisite Windows components.

SharePoint 2013 on Windows Server 2008-2016

Note: U-Move does not support moving a multiple-server (farm) installation of SharePoint 2013. This is because Microsoft does not support this installation method on a domain controller.

  1. Review the hardware requirements for installing SharePoint 2013.
  2. In Server Manager (ServerManager.exe) click on Manage -> Add Roles and Features.
  3. Add the role Web Service (IIS), including
    • ASP.NET 4.5
    • .NET 4.5 Extensibility
    • ISAPI Extensions
    • ISAPI Filters
    • Basic Authentication
    • Windows Authentication
    • Request Filtering
    • IIS Management Console
    • IIS Management Scripts and Tools
    • IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility
Note: The role Web Server (IIS) will appear to be grayed out in Server Manager. It is still selectable. Double-click on Web Server (IIS) to open the subtrees to select the features listed above.
  4. Insert the SharePoint Server 2013 DVD disk and click on Install software prerequisites. (If the option does not appear, run D:\PrerequisiteInstaller.exe, where D: is the disk letter of your DVD drive.) This will download and install any additional prerequisite software that is needed to run SharePoint 2013.

SharePoint 2010 on Windows Server 2008 (SP2 or R2)

(Small Business Server 2011 users can skip this step.)

  1. Review the hardware requirements for installing SharePoint 2010.
  2. Windows Server 2008 R2: Download and install .NET Framework 4.5.
  3. Click on Start -> Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools -> Server Manager.
  4. In Server Manager right-click on Roles and select Add Role.
  5. Add the role Web Service (IIS), including
    • ASP.NET
    • .NET Extensibility

    • Basic Authentication
    • Windows Authentication
    • Request Filtering
    • IIS Management Console
    • IIS Management Scripts and Tools
    • IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility
  6. Add the role Application Server.
  7. Right-click on Features and select Add Feature. Click on Remote Server Administration Tools -> Role Administration Tools. Check the box to add the feature Web Server (IIS) Tools.
  8. Insert the SharePoint Server 2010 DVD disk and click on Install software prerequisites. (If the option does not appear, run D:\PrerequisiteInstaller.exe, where D: is the disk letter of your DVD drive.) This will download and install any additional prerequisite software that is needed to run SharePoint 2010.
