Simple vs Comprehensive

When you restore Active Directory on the same computer, you can choose to do a simple restore or a comprehensive restore.

A simple restore will restore only the Active Directory database on the same computer.

A comprehensive restore is needed to restore AD on a different computer.

A comprehensive restore will restore additional information and additional databases that are closely connected with Active Directory. These include the computer name, the IP address, the Domain Name Server (DNS) database, the DHCP database, the Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) database, the Active Directory Certificate Services (AD CS) database, the IIS metabase, and the WINS database.
