Enterprise Backup
Use the same backup schedule for all domain controllers
For fast and reliable domain-wide and forest-wide AD recovery, it is important that you use the same backup schedule for all domain controllers in your organization. This is called a time-consistent backup snapshot.
A time-consistent backup snapshot lets you do a quick and easy recovery of the AD domain or AD forest.
The U-Move backup operation runs quickly in the background (1-5 minutes is typical) and does not interrupt AD service.
Traditional AD Recovery Versus U-Move Recovery
Traditional Active Directory recovery methods require that you use a complicated 40 step procedure to recover AD, which is is required to deal with time-skew between the DC backups and the fact that these recovery methods do not create a perfectly cloned image of the domain controller.
For example, you need to adjust the RID pool, rebuild global catalogs, and reset the Kerberos krbtgt passwords.
Because U-Move creates a perfect clone of Active Directory, including all DC secrets and machine settings, you can skip most of the 40 steps when doing a forest-wide recovery.
